\u00a0 Click here<\/em><\/a> for the full report (\u00a9Shizen to Ningen sha) in Japanese.\u00a0 The following is a brief summary, by the journalist Yuki Tsuruta—Editor<\/em><\/p>\n —Yuki Tsuruta (1\/25\/10)<\/p>\n I visited two small islands in Nagasaki prefecture in November 2009.\u00a0 This is what I was told by several of the dairy farmers.\u00a0<\/p>\n (1)\u00a0 Ukujima 24.9km2<\/sup>, population 3000.\u00a0 The island has one 1000 kW wind turbine, built in 2001.<\/p>\n (a) Farmer A<\/em> (340m from cow barn to the turbine).\u00a0 This family has been dairy farming (breeding and raising cattle) for over 40 years.\u00a0 Recently, some calves suffered from swelling of shoulder and knee joints.\u00a0 Others had spinal curvature. The symptoms in each case get worse as they grow up.<\/p>\n
