Against the wind<\/h2>\n

The pursuit of clean energy has relegated ordinary people\u00a0to the status of “collateral damage”<\/a><\/h4>\n

\nEven before they threatened my property,\u00a0I was opposed to wind farms. \u00a0They fail on all counts. They are\u00a0grossly inefficient, extremely expensive,\u00a0socially inequitable, a danger to human\u00a0health, environmentally harmful, divisive\u00a0for communities, a blot on the landscape,\u00a0and don\u2019t even achieve the purpose for\u00a0which they were designed, namely the reliable\u00a0generation of electricity and the reduction\u00a0of CO2 emissions.<\/p>\n

Even if you buy the anthropogenic global\u00a0warming case, experience shows that\u00a0wind energy is not the answer. How is it,\u00a0then, that governments around the world\u00a0have embraced this technology with abandon,\u00a0in the process spending hundreds of\u00a0billions of dollars of other people\u2019s money\u00a0in a shameless wealth transfer from the\u00a0poor to the rich? Surely the economic effect\u00a0of taxing hardest those who can least afford\u00a0it was thoroughly examined ahead of politically\u00a0motivated empty gestures designed to\u00a0placate climate change alarmists?<\/p>\n

Apparently not.<\/p>\n

I am not a conspiracy theorist, but we\u00a0have witnessed the birth of an extraordinary,\u00a0universal and self-reinforcing movement\u00a0among the political and executive\u00a0arms of government, their academic consultants,\u00a0the mainstream media and vested\u00a0private sector interests (such as investment\u00a0banks and the renewables industry),\u00a0held together by the promise of unlimited\u00a0government money. It may not be a\u00a0conspiracy, but long-term, government underwritten\u00a0annuities have certainly created\u00a0one gigantic and powerful oligopoly\u00a0which must coerce taxpayers and penalize\u00a0energy consumers to survive.<\/p>\n
